The ceremony, attended by symbolic saints, scout youth, and members of the local community from various sects, included a walking procession under the auspices of Bishop Antonios Saad. During the ceremony, Father Saad delivered a speech in which he praised “the unity of the components of As-Suwayda and the broader Syrian society, particularly between Daraa and Damascus.” He noted that “As-Suwayda lost fifteen martyrs out of the twenty-two martyrs of the massacre,” stressing that “this terrorist act will not go unpunished, and justice will reach the perpetrators sooner or later.” He also pointed to the deep sense of grief felt by Christians in Syria and abroad as a result of the attack, affirming that “the pain caused by the massacre has strengthened national unity and the bonds of love among the people of the homeland.” Father Saad further commended the positions of the Druze sheikhs, the Druze community, and local forces, as well as the support shown by other national components, especially the Kurds and Alawites, who expressed sincere solidarity with Christians. He said, “This is the Syria we want—one of brotherhood, love, and unity in the face of tragedy.” A-H ANHA × Bishop of Bosra, Hauran, Jabal al-Arab affirms firm stand against violence, terrorism ANHA agency monitored the memorial held to honor the souls of the victims who lost their lives in the bombing that targeted Mar Elias Church in the Damascus countryside, where participants lit candles in remembrance.
